I know it’s been out for a little bit, but I just have to rave about the NECA Aliens Series 8 Dog Alien, from the company’s 7” scale line of our favorite movie monsters.
Recently, I got my hands on the gray version of this figure and I was immediately impressed by the intricacy of the toy’s sculpt. There is such an amazing level of detail on this figure that some may even go as far as to call it a “museum quality” figure. It is a masterful depiction of H.R. Giger’s “biomechanics” style of art, which became the basis for the creature in Alien–so much so, that the figure looks like it stepped directly out of The Necronomicon.
The gray paint job provides perfect contrast to the darker color underneath, masterfully highlighting the intricate details of the sculpture itself. (Wow, I almost feel like an art critic or something!)
The clear dome over the creature’s head works perfectly to reveal it’s inner head structure, while air spray work provides some great definition on the front and back of its head.
As for the body, it lends itself to extreme levels of posability. The triple-jointed dog legs enhance the inhuman look of the creature and allow it to extend its height to a staggering nine inches—towering well above your army of Colonial Marines! The tail is also a joy to behold; it sports massive posability and looks very intimating due to the aforementioned sculpt. I give this figure a ten, out of ten “alien eggs” and call it one of the best Alien figures Neca has done to date in this line.
